CEO changes for Cornwall CLT
Andrew George, who has been CEO since late 2015, is standing down from the role following his re-election as MP for St Ives. He had been job sharing the role with Steve Goulston since the beginning of April this year. Andrew will join the Board as a Director, so having a continuing involvement with Cornwall Community Land Trust and remaining actively engaged.
Andrew led Cornwall CLT as it increased its housing folio and worked and helped establish many new projects.
Andrew led Cornwall CLT as it increased its housing portfolio and worked to help establish many new projects. Leading it through a period of significant growth, developing 50 community-led homes at Landrake, St Teath, Rame, Ruan Minor and Duloe. Working with local communities, successful pre-development work at Nancledra, Gwennap, St Dennis, Newlyn, Lanivet, Treskerby and St Mary’s Isles of Scilly resulted in over 100 homes with planning permission and other projects underway. He has also guided CCLT to become a Registered Provider, regulated by the Registrar of Social Housing and to become an Investment Partner with Homes England. CCLT is one of the most successful CLLTs in the UK.
His tenure has not been without challenges, such as guiding the charity through the covid pandemic and the subsequent period of high construction sector inflation – with 30%+ price increases in the last few years. This created a challenging environment for charitable housing providers – whether large or small. Rural locations like Cornwall and Scilly who are affected by distance from some supply bases have been particularly hard hit.
From 1st August, Steve Goulston will take on the role of CEO. He previously was Joint CEO, having joined Cornwall Community Land Trust in April this year to job share with Andrew. Steve brings to the role a wealth of experience, particularly in the areas of development and construction gained in his career to date. Steve said, ‘I am delighted to be receiving the baton from Andrew to continue the valuable work carried out by Cornwall CLT in providing desperately needed affordable homes for local people throughout Cornwall and in doing so helping to address the current housing crisis. We have several schemes amounting to over 60 units for which we have planning in place, and despite the difficult conditions facing the sector, we intend to start on site in the near future to deliver homes mainly for social rent for local people.’
